Notes Coffee Bokasso Espresso

Notes are my go-to coffee place when I’m in the office because:

1. The coffee from the office canteen tastes like it’s passed through the radiator of a Rover 75 a couple of times before it’s reached my mug;
2. It’s far enough away for me to get a little break from the office when I go for a quick cuppa, but not so far that I get looked at askance for being away for too long;
3. Their iced coffee is perfect.

As such, I decided that it was high time that I tried some of their (admittedly slightly pricier than I am used to) beans at home. They don’t offer pre-ground stuff, so I cleaned out the remnants of my Brown Bear haul from the grinder and got to work on the Bokasso.

Coffee Corner – July 2014

Today’s the beginning of a series of monthly posts on coffee.

I drink a lot of coffee. My day job involves being on the first train and in the office before the Today programme has even started. I have seen the wrong end of 5am too many times to count.

Seriously.

It’s a problem.

You see stuff. Stuff goes down.

Lol jk. Nothing goes down. 99.9% of the rest of the population are asleep. It’s basically me, the train driver and the bored looking guy in the 24 hour Tesco I pass on the walk from the station awake at that time.

ANYWAY.

I have decided that I need to improve my coffee game, as at the moment the best it seems to get is buying proper branded instant rather than own-brand muck. This is a decidedly depressing state of affairs, and given that I drink a fair amount of coffee, it should really be decent stuff (and not bought, because who the hell can afford more than a couple of coffee shop coffees in a day?).

Enter the Aeropress
To sort out my coffee woes I was faced with a conundrum. It’s quite hard to get a decent cup of coffee without making a godawful racket. This would not be appreciated at silly o’clock. Therefore I began googling. And googling. And googling.

I found nothing.

Then, I walked into an actual shop with actual people (also known as Whittard’s) and got pointed in the direction of the Aeropress. For those unfamiliar, it’s two big plastic tubes which form a press. You pop in ground coffee, near-boiling water and then press down on the top tube. And then you have coffee. It’s also made by the people who made those awesome Aerobie frisbees from when I was but a whippersnapper, which is entirely useless knowledge, but made me smile.

It’s silent, it’s easy, it requires little to no washing up.

Could it be perfect?
